Completely self-taught and without a formal art education, Mr Lim's art training began early at his alma mater Chung Calligraphy practice was customary in the curriculum in the Chinese education system back then. It was such beginnings that determined the direction he was to take as an artist later in his life. Lim's explorations in calligraphy are particularly intriguing despite the misgivings of detractors. When his series of  糊涂字 – HuTuZi(muddled writing) first appeared in an exhibition in 2008, he was at first nervous feeling unsure how it would be received.
